This trip was organized by Kirk (founder of the Single Malt Society) and Carol Figus, two seasoned travelers who are far from finished exploring. Over the years, they’ve come to know destinations not just through their landmarks and museums, but also through the off-the-beaten-path stops: the markets, side streets, little-known attractions, and welcoming cafés.
They created this itinerary to share the kind of journeys they value most: thoughtfully planned, expertly guided, and balanced with time to explore on your own, featuring both the iconic must-see sights and the lesser-known places that make for a more rewarding experience. Prior trips were organized to Scotland (twice) and the Republic of Ireland.
You don’t need to be a member of the Single Malt Society to enjoy this trip—many non‑members have joined our past journeys. The emphasis is on exploring Northern Ireland’s rich culture, fascinating history, and natural beauty, with a variety of fun, interesting stops along the way. Best of all, you’ll be part of a friendly group of fellow travelers who share your sense of curiosity and adventure.

After transferring to our hotel and settling in, you’ll have time to leisurely wander the lively streets before joining our Go Ahead Tour Director and fellow travelers for a Welcome Dinner to get acquainted.

Seafaring Belfast has been transformed into a city of energy and charm, welcoming visitors with lively markets, historic landmarks, a vibrant arts scene, and a friendly spirit. Guided by a local expert, we’ll learn about the city’s Bronze Age origins, it’s rise as an international seaport, and its role in the sectarian conflict known around the world as “the Troubles.”
TITANIC EXPERIENCE MUSEUM
Built on the site where the Titanic was designed and constructed! You’ll explore fascinating galleries of interactive exhibits and full-size reconstructions to trace the ship’s journey from the hopeful launch to her tragic sinking.
MCCONNELL'S DISTILLERY
Situated in a former prison, we’ll be greeted with a signature cocktail and learn about the distillery’s revival. A tasting will showcase McConnell's rich craftsmanship, while those who prefer not to taste are welcome to simply enjoy the unusual setting.
DAY 4: MORE BELFAST
WE’LL ENJOY A 12TH-CENTURY CASTLE AND AMPLE TIME TO WANDER ON YOUR OWN.

Stepping into this imposing 12th-century castle feels like traveling back in time. We’ll wander its echoing halls, admire the grand banquet room, and stroll along its cannon-lined battlements. Enjoy time after your tour to explore the grounds at your own pace, climb the ramparts for sweeping views of the harbor, or simply soak in the atmosphere of this ancient sentinel.

DAY 5: COUNTY DERRY
WHAT A DAY — SCENIC BEAUTY, A LEGENDARY DISTILLERY, AND A GROUP DINNER!

We’ll journey along the stunning Antrim Coast, stopping at the otherworldly landscape of the Giant’s Causeway alongside the crashing Atlantic waves to marvel at the tens of thousands of extraordinary basalt columns formed over 60 million years ago by ancient volcanic activity. On a clear day, you can cast your gaze across the sea to Scotland while taking in a sweeping stretch of Northern Ireland’s dramatic coastline.

DISTILLERY TOUR
It’ll be a flavorful stop after our exploration of the Antrim Coast’s dramatic scenery. At Ireland’s oldest licensed distillery, we’ll learn about the whiskey‑making process and Bushmills’ 400 years of history. We’ll finish in the Master Distiller’s Room for a tasting showcasing Bushmills’ unique aromas, flavors, and character. Those who prefer not to taste are welcome to simply enjoy the fascinating presentation.

Once settled in our County Derry hotel, we’ll gather to break bread in another evening of fine dining and fun conversation.
DAY 6: EXPLORING DERRY

We’ll delve into the complex history and vibrant spirit of Derry alongside an expert local guide, revealing the city’s layered past. You’ll discover how this ancient and resilient city has evolved while honoring its heritage carved out over four centuries of history. Our guide will provide commentary on the historical conflict between the Protestant and Catholic communities, and the events that shaped the country’s history.
PEACE BRIDGE
We’ll cross the famous Peace Bridge, a strikingly curved pedestrian and bicycle bridge that symbolizes the city’s reconciliation and connection.
17TH-CENTURY FORTIFICATIONS WALL WALK
We’ll stroll alongside the historic 17th-century walled fortifications and armaments — some of the best-preserved in Europe — and take in sweeping views of the colorful streets and skyline below.

We’ll enter beautiful St. Columb’s Cathedral, the city’s oldest building and considered a stunning example of Plantation Gothic architecture.

DAY 7: ENNISKILLEN BOUND!

We’ll travel south to Enniskillen, a charming island setting nestled between the Upper and Lower Lough Erne. Shimmering lake waters frame medieval stone walls, as the lively town beckons with a myriad of art studios, craft shops, cozy pubs, and inviting cafes.
COUNTRY FARM VISIT AND SHEEPDOG DEMONSTRATION
ULSTER AMERICAN FOLK PARK
A working farm will provide insight into rural life, and skilled sheepdogs will demonstrate the art of sheep herding as we gain insight into the traditions that define Ireland’s rich agricultural heritage.
An open-air museum of 30 buildings, immersive
exhibits, authentic recreations, a full-scale emigrant ship, and an American frontier settlement tells of 300 years of Irish emigration to America.
DAY 8: BACK TO BELFAST
A FINAL DAY OF EXPLORATION, A SCENIC CRUISE, COCKTAILS, & OUR FAREWELL DINNER!
